  2. Rinsing, Rinsate, Disposal & IBC (Waste Disposal) February 8, 2018 Q: When should rinsate be managed as a hazardous waste? A: Generally, rinsate from agricultural chemicals should be treated as a hazardous waste. Incineration is the method of disposal for agricultural chemicals/ rinsate. Incineration insures the most complete destruction of the waste material. Q: Are there other options for the management of rinsate? A: Yes. But, to determine if rinsate can be treated for disposal methods other than incineration, a full TCLP may be required. For totes and containers with the MSDS’s attached, the chemical constituents should be listed, the constituents being the determining factor of how a chemical or rinsate should be disposed of.

  3. Rinsing, Rinsate, Disposal & IBC (Waste Disposal) February 8, 2018 Q: What other disposal options are there for agricultural chemicals/rinsate? A: 1) Some Arsenic compounds that can’t be incinerated, need to be disposed of in a Subtitle C (hazardous waste) landfill, permitted to accept arsenicals. 2) For rinsate with metals, stabilization and treatment is an allowable disposal option in Subtitle C landfill. 3) For rinsate to be landfilled in a hazardous waste landfill, must be less than 500 ppm. In summary, the best method of disposal for rinsate is incineration, but it is also the customer’s decision on how rinsate should be managed. It is also a financial decision: The minimum cost for full analysis is approximately $700/analysis.

  4. Rinsing, Rinsate, Disposal & IBC (Waste Disposal) February 8, 2018 >Environmental, Safety & Health Issues associated with empty container management 1) At collection events, only accept properly rinsed containers 2) Proper PPE should be worn when inspecting containers Don’t take it for granted that the containers have been properly rinsed
