Executive Summary

  • 75% of all respondents received an increase in salary in the LY (vs. 61% in

marketing & digital community)

  • 1 in 5 received an increase of 11%+ - at least 6 times the rate of inflation
  • Evenly spread across ALL career levels – even most junior roles
  • Most common benefit is Contributory pension with half of Support level

  • Bonuses are given to 75% of respondents in Multi-nationals vs. only 36% in Irish Companies

(Possibly reflecting the high proportion of analytics practitioners in the Banking sector who are still struggling to award bonuses)

  • Annual Leave entitlement is increasing with two thirds at Managerial level

having 25+ days holiday

  • 20% at Director level having 30+ days annual leave

  • The gender pay gap stands at 6% in favour of males in this industry
  • In 62% of roles where both genders were represented, males earned more than their female

counterparts

  • Talent “Time Bomb” as the community are on the move
  • Overall 64% see themselves staying in their current company for less than 2 years
  • At Support level this increases to 80%
  • Most worrying of all, 41% of Managers will remain in their current company for less than 1 yr
  • Engagement Levels are low creating the need for meaningful

employer branding strategies

  • 41% stating levels of 8+ (out of 10)
  • Support levels are the least engaged with only 1 in 5 feeling very engaged at 8+
  • Directors are the most engaged but even then only half are at 8+
  • And generally females are less engaged across all levels than males
  • Top Engagement Factors are consistent across all levels
  • Meaningful role, Flexible hours, Career Progression & Great Projects to work on
  • Three quarters of Directors state that Great Projects are the most important factor
  • One third of Support level state that On the Job Learning is very important

  • This correlates with demands from our clients for “Soft Skills” in tandem with the more technical

skill sets.

important are Statistical/Predictive modelling, Data Visualisation & Descriptive Analytics

Most in-demand roles in Data Analytics

  • The latest roles and must-have skills:
  • Senior data leads with soft skills – EQ, Communication, Consultative –

these include Data Transformation leads

  • Advanced analytics managers and senior data scientists (those with

HADOOP stack)

  • Analysts are being hired from a broader array of quant backgrounds

(including, notably engineering & GIS)

  • Deep learning (advanced machine learning/AI) across insurance,

healthcare, telecommunication, banking and IT

  • Still demand for traditional data science skills e.g. modelling
  • New tools & modelling techniques to compliment Google or Adobe

Analytics have greatly increased the capabilities of digital & web analysts – Digital Data Scientists some of the rarest hybrids
