Overall Takeaways

2017 PARCC Results | DCPS

2

▪ Significant gains in ELA and Math performance:

  • DCPS made record gains in both ELA (+6.4 percentage points) and Math (+3.5 percentage

points)

  • DCPS’s gain in ELA is significantly higher than in 2016 (+0.6 percentage points)
  • DCPS continued a strong pace of improvement in Math from 2016 (+3.0 percentage points)
  • Participation increased to 97% in both ELA and Math from 95% and 94% respectively

▪ Reduction in students at L1 and L2:

  • The percentage of students scoring at a Level 1 or 2 decreased significantly in ELA (-6.6

percentage points) and Math (-4.4 percentage points)

▪ All subgroups improved but the achievement gap increased:

  • DCPS’s gains were broad-based. All grade-levels and subgroups improved
  • Economically disadvantaged students made some of the largest improvements (+9.2 in ELA

and +6.6 in Math)

  • However, the achievement gap between white and black students increased.
