  2. PARCC GETTING STARTED The following slides will demonstrate the log in and exiting procedures.

  3. LOGGING IN • They will need to sign in. • During our practice runs we do not sign in. • Logging in, whether at home on a gaming console, favorite website, social media or to their account in school remains the same. They must enter an ID and Password. • We are continually reinforcing the importance of having the correct information for logging in with different mediums. (i.e., Windows’ profile, My Big Campus, EduTyping, etc.)

  4. L OGGING IN AND NAVIGATING The following images are an example of the PARCC sign in page.

  9. PARCC TOOLS The following slides will demonstrate the tools available that will assist students with PARCC. The students have already started working with the sample items provided by the PARCC website. The following slides will showcase what they have been or will be exposed to.

  10. TOOLS USED TO MOVE THROUGH THE TEST • Just like a ribbon in Word, PowerPoint, Excel or a common webpage there are tools that the student must use. • The arrow keys allow the student to navigate from page to page. • There are also math related tools and a calculator for the sections that allow the use of the tool. • If students choose to skip a question, they can flag it as a reminder to go back if time permits.

  11. A PREVIEW OF THE TOOLS • Review – shows a list of answered and unanswered questions • Flag – students can flag a question as a reminder that it was skipped • Pointer – used to navigate and select • Protractor – to measure angles • Ruler – used for measurement • Calculator – perform calculations • Eliminate Choice – allows student to cross out an answer to focus their thoughts

  15. CALCULATOR AND RULERS Students will be reminded that answers will need to be entered into the answer box and the calculator will not be used to enter an answer. The rulers can be dragged around. The circles can be dragged to rotate the rulers.

  16. ANSWER ELIMINATOR Students will be reminded that an answer still needs to be selected and using the eliminator and leaving one blank response does not answer the question.

  17. REVIEW BUTTON

  18. TEXT HIGHLIGHT TOOL The Text Highlight Tool allows you to highlight words and sentences with a colored background to help you take notes. A student need only click and drag on top of the text so that the highlighter option can appear.

  19. ACCESSIBILITY TOOLS

  20. LINE READER TOOL The Line Reader is available for all students to use by selecting the option from the accessibility drop-down menu in the top right corner of the screen. This tool will help you to focus on one section of information at a time. The green box can be extended to allow for more reading area or to block out more of the text.

  21. ZOOM TOOL You can also hold CTRL and use your mouse wheel to scroll in or out.

  22. BACKGROUND/FOREGROUND COLOR This feature will only be available for certain students.

  23. ANSWER MASKING This feature will only be available for certain students.

  24. TEXT-TO-SPEECH TOOL

  25. VIDEO PLAYER

  26. SCROLLING METHODS • Select and drag the scroll bar • Up/down arrows (making sure you click on the area you want to move) • Mouse wheel (making sure you click on the area you want to move)

  27. PARCC TYPES OF QUESTIONS The following slides will demonstrate some the different types of questions that may be present on the test.

  28. MULTIPLE CHOICE This type of question uses radio buttons allowing a single response choice to be selected. Each answer will a circle next to it.

  29. MULTIPLE SELECT This type of question uses checkboxes instead of radio buttons allowing you to select multiple answers. They can be checked and unchecked as needed. Students will be reminded to read directions carefully, so they know how many options to select for each question.

  30. DRAG AND DROP Some drag and drop questions will allow you to drag multiple answers into the drop area. Others will only require one answer per box. Answers need to be dragged out of the drop area if you need to switch answers.

  31. FRACTION MODEL Fewer: Reduces the number of fraction parts within the circle. More: Increases the number of fraction parts within the circle. Reset: Resets the number of parts within the circle to its original state. Select Area: Select parts within the circle to shade them.

  32. DROP DOWN (INLINE CHOICE) Students already perform this maneuver when they select a different font face, size or color.

  33. GRAPH/PLOTTING Students can click to add points and click again on the same points to remove them.

  34. ANSWER BOX Students can click and type to add an answer. Same skill needed to add a username or password.

  35. ENTERING ANSWERS OR EQUATIONS Students will use the numeric keys on the keyboard. EduTyping provides lessons that work with those specific keys, which students will complete.

  36. PARCC ITS CONNECTION IN THE CLASSROOM The following slides will show the connection to what is being done in the classroom (via the tech lab) that will assist students in their navigation through PARCC.

  37. HOW IT’S CONNECTED • Along with every project in technology students are given a review checklist. • They are required to check that all parts of the required work is completed. These sheets are given back to each student with a grade and given the opportunity to use the review sheet to fix and improve their score. • This is not an option on PARCC, but with practice and attention to detail, the skill of reviewing and making sure all parts have been completed will result in better test taking skills.

  38. TYPING PRACTICE • The students have been practicing typing at home and at school. They cover two lessons every week. • The students will also be completing timed typing tests and will continue to do so throughout the year. Students were told that they can complete some at home after their two lessons. • Students also complete prompts. They get five minutes to brainstorm and type as much as they can.

  39. TYPING ETIQUETTE • We do not use Caps Lock. • When do we use Bold, Underline or Italics? • When is it okay to use ALL CAPS? • We space once after a sentence, word, comma, period, etc. There is no space between the last letter of the sentence and the period. • We press Enter when starting a new paragraph.

  40. PARCC KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS • CTRL+X = Cut • CTRL+C = Copy • CTRL+V = Paste • CTRL+(plus or minus symbol) = Zooms In or Out • CTRL+Mouse scroll wheel = Zooms In or Out (away from you zooms in; towards you zooms out)
