  2. NCBA and Checkoff Meeting

  3. Country of Origin Labeling Snapshot! • We started fighting for COOL in 1996 with the addressing of the imports of Canadian and Mexican live cattle and what they were doing to our domestic live cattle market. We fought hard and passed COOL in 2008. • While the importing countries argued that it cost them (even some here), their prices responded like that of the lead of the USA prices up until 2015. Therefore nullifying their claim of damage. • Sen. Pat Roberts and politics in 2015 created the largest loss of income for Producers, feeders and retailers that I believe we have ever witnessed by killing COOL. • The market collapse in 2015 was not “Fat cattle weights, herd rebuilding or no demand”, it was a direct result of higher beef IMPORTS, less competition and multinational meat packer profits. • Our markets/board of trade are out of control. No sound basis for trades tied to what was once “supply and demand”.

  4. Senator Pat Roberts is the problem in D.C.. • He has put us at risk on every front by his efforts and actions against COOL! • His puppet selection of Senate Ag Committee Panel members without question wanted to kill or weaken COOL. • R- CALF USA was denied a seat and he claimed he didn’t know we wanted on. We would have been the only group in support fully of Mandatory COOL. • Roberts at a recent town hall meeting said to me, that we could try again for the next Farm Bill and we would have a seat at the table… SURE..

  5. Catfish Roberts • On June 25, 2015, Sen. Roberts stacked the deck at his COOL hearing which futher shows his corruption of being a leader of the fraternity in D.C. of Liars, Thugs and Thieves! • WE win every time but to him it doesn't matter, he is catering to threats only by Canada and Mexico besides being on the multinational meatpackers payroll. He continually is defying the producers and publics opinion and also the 4 U.S.District court cases filed by AMI/NCBA where we won unanimously! • As Record of their filings Page 10, section 34. All livestock and meat processed at federally inspected establishments in the United States and sold in interstate commerce are subject to the same health and safety requirements, as prescribed by the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Poultry Products Inspection Act. Those products are also graded for quality according to a system administered by AMS without variation based on where an animal was born or raised. In short, beef is beef, whether the cattle were born in Montana, Manitoba, or Mazatlán. The same goes for hogs, chickens, and other livestock. • IMPORTS ARE COMING! Alone, JBS/BRAZIL bought market access by plan and now they will fill it with their 188 MILLION head cow herd. Total Imports the end of 2015 were up 34%!

  6. COOL Cost vs Reward • There is no evidence that COOL cost USA producers one penny! • There is evidence that COOL returned substantial profits to producers, feeders, packers and retailers. Economic reports showed purchases in Kansas were very high! Today that isn’t the case.. • Consumers had choices and still were buying USA products/BEEF at higher prices. • It should be noted that the HPJ writer Jerry Nine/Oklahoma reported that when the cattle market of 2014 was peaking, we were told that steak cost $16.99 and burger was $6.99 that consumers were going to back away. Jerry Nine reported about 1 month ago that we had given up $54.00 per hundred in the fat market and calves have taken a bath as well but while he was in a retail store steaks were still $16.99 and Burger was $6.99 per lb.. So he asked, “where is the problem”?

  7. 12-15-2015 Where lies the problem? $6.23 Average price..

  8. The Fact vs Fiction • COOL made producers profitable. Here is a clear example: • In December 22, 2014 we sold and averaged 664 lb calves for $2.85 p lb. bringing $1,892.40 per head. • In December of 2015 we sold the same 635 lb calves for $960.00 per head. • A clear difference with a loss per head of -$932.40 in just one year!

  9. BEEF IMPORTS ARE UP.. • The United States has imported 2.16 billion pounds of beef so far in 2015 (January - July, up 32.5 from 2014.) • The United States imported the most beef in 2015 from Australia followed by New Zealand and Canada. • U.S. beef imports from Australia are up 55percent in 2015. • U.S. beef imports from New Zealand are up 16 percent in 2015. • U.S. beef imports from Canada are up 2.5 percent in 2015. • U.S. beef imports from Brazil are up 119 percent in 2015. Brazil is the 5th largest supplier of beef to the United States so far in 2015.

  14. Moving Forward • Radio interview with Bill Bullard on COOL topic and effects to our market and consumers choices. Remember this, "if COOL wasn't working, how did it cause any effect on Canada and Mexico's markets? • We have filed letters and are awaiting the election results to see where we go from here. • Packers again used corruption through congress to get an open door policy in place. • WE have to shut it!

  15. • We are still committed to WIN! • History shows, past and open ended trade deals are killing the USA! • We want to thank each and everyone of you for your past and continued support for the organization and our leadership that is unmatched when it comes to facts and integrity!
