What actions can you take? • #1 - Demand large banks stop funding the dirty fossil fuel industry and divest of those banks. • Successful fossil fuel industry requires: – Ability to locate, extract and transport the fossil fuels – Big banks to finance their operating expenses and expansions. • In 2017 major banks in U.S. and Canada increased their financial investments in the fossil fuel industry.

  11. Divest Exceedingly important that banks decrease and eventually withhold their financing of oil companies. Study graded 36 major banks worldwide: • Their contributions to top 30 companies in each “extreme fossil fuel sector” – Tar sands = dirtiest energy fuel • Their adherence to the “Equator Principles,” respect for and protection of human rights – Especially important for pipelines for transport • Rating order for top 6 US banks: JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo
