Three Learnings for 2020 Participants

#LongBeachGives

Start Early (earlier than you think) Identify a Champion & assign them a support team Plan your promotion ahead of time

slide-7
SLIDE 7

The early birds gets the worm

Lesson One: Start Early (earlier than you think you need to)

#LongBeachGives

Get everyone involved and on board from the start (and start earlier). Identify early adopters of your campaign efforts and start preparing them for peer fundraising efforts earlier. Start earlier in asking board members and current donors for matching grants and donor commitments. Start earlier than originally expected and generate excitement around the campaign among staff, board members, volunteers, followers, etc. The initial workshops emphasized the importance of starting early, but we underestimated the overall amount

  • f time it would take.
slide-8
SLIDE 8

Your organization’s Champion needs a support team

Lesson Two: Identify Your Champions (early)

#LongBeachGives

Dedicate a staff member to the campaign in addition to the Development Manager. Motivate and select staff that already love to do social media. Create an ad hoc board committee dedicated to this campaign. Encourage your peer fundraisers to ask their friends and colleagues to also create a peer2peer fundraising page.

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Fundraising is marketing

Lesson Three: Plan out your promo (early)

#LongBeachGives

Start designing and preparing the images and copy for social media posts and emails ahead of time so you are not rushed in the days leading up to the campaign. Develop a content calendar for email and social media earlier that calls for peer fundraisers to sign-up and not just for donations on the giving day. Understand that marketing is fundraising and not a separate effort. Develop a content calendar for email and social media earlier that educates your audience on Long Beach Gives
