Critical steps taken in preparation for modified in-person learning

The following protocols/expectations have been developed for modified in-person learning:

slide-7
SLIDE 7

◆ General Measures ■ All staff and students are required to wear masks. ■ All staff have received at least one face covering and one face shield from HCS. ■ All students will be receiving one face covering with their school logo from HCS.

slide-9
SLIDE 9

◆ Contact Tracing Efforts ■ All school nurses have been trained to conduct contact tracing. This will assist in communicating with the Hampton Health Department (HHD) should a COVID concern arise. ■ HCS Health Services has a database to track:

  • Staff/students with symptoms
  • Staff/students who may have had contact with

someone with a positive COVID test

  • Staff/students with a positive COVID test

slide-10
SLIDE 10

◆ Two pronged Health Screening: ■ All staff and parents/guardians with their student are required to perform a self assessment BEFORE coming to work or school utilizing the HCS Staff Health Assessment Questionnaire or HCS Student Health Assessment Questionnaire. ■ Once arriving at school, students will report directly to their assigned classrooms and the HCS Student Health Assessment Questionnaire will also be reviewed by teacher/instructional staff at the beginning of each school

  • day. Late arrivals will be assessed in the office.

slide-11
SLIDE 11

◆ Illness at school/work ■ Students/staff reporting symptoms will be assessed by the school nurse. ■ Sick/CARE room will be available at each school building. ■ HCS nursing staff will provide quarantine recommendation based on CDC guidelines. ■ All students’ parents and staff will be advised to seek medical advice. ■ HCS COVID-19 guidelines include notifying HHD; then HCS administration, parents and/or staff as appropriate based on HHD recommendations.

Building a Culture of Shared Responsibility:

Covid-19 has taught the nation that we are all in this together. With that thought in mind, HCS understands that no one person or group can be solely responsible for the health, safety, and cleanliness of the school

  • building. This is a shared responsibility.

HCS is committed to building a school culture where all school members are committed to doing their part in providing the healthiest school environment possible. To that end, teachers and age-appropriate students will work together in the sanitizing of their own classroom desks and workstations.

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Desk/Workstation Cleaning Protocols for Age-Appropriate Students:

⬥ HCS will create a culture of a safe and healthy school environment by: ■ Students who change classes will be provided with an

  • rganic-based disinfectant solution and gloves to wipe their

desk/workstation, desk shield, and touchpoints. ■ Students who do not change classes and the classroom teachers are rotating, time will be provided prior to dismissal for students to use a organic-based disinfectant solution to wipe their desk/workstation and desk shield. ⬥ The cleaning solution chemical makeup will be posted on the HCS website so that parents/guardians can determine if an alternative solution is needed for the cleaning of their child’s station.

Virginia’s New Accreditation System Phase 2 Instructional Models - High

The High School schedule in Phase 2 entails a return to the traditional high school schedule where students are taking four of their eight classes on Day 1 and the remaining four of their eight classes on Day 2. For students interested in remaining in a virtual setting, they will “Zoom into classrooms” during instruction. Fridays will be set aside for remediation, office hours and counseling.

◆ VDH Pandemic Metrics: ■ A decreasing trend of at least 14 days in the case incidence rate per 100,000. Hampton’s cases had been increasing for 9 days. ■ The percent of case incidence rate per 100,000 should be below a 10% threshold. Hampton’s case incidence rate per 100,000 was 10.0%. ■ The positivity rate per 100,000 should be below 10%. Hampton’s positivity rate was 5.8%.
