In 2014 the Rotary club of London Hyde Pa rk partnered with the City of London to install new playground equipment in Nor’West Optimist park located in North West London. The new playground was dedicated on June 26, 2014 (the last day of school) with a free community barbecue. It is estimated over 300 families attended. The club is currently organizing a second community barbecue for June 25, 2015 at the same location. Rotarians also recognize the importance of education as a key component in breaking the cycle of poverty. In 2009/10 the Rotary club of London Hyde Park joined over 300 Canadian Rotary clubs, in building a school in Afghanistan for up to 4,000 girls and boys. Since it opened in September 2010 the school has become one of the best in the country and currently has 1,560 girls and 1,950 boys enrolled for the 2014/15 school year.
