  1. News Release October 25, 2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Legacy Fund Cheque Presentation at Sunshine Coast Arts Council Sechelt, BC – R epresentatives from various Sunshine Coast organizations met with Darnelda Siegers, Mayor, Counsellors Matt McLean, Eric Scott and Alton Toth, and Geoff Craig, President of the Sunshine Coast Community Forest to receive cheques from the Legacy Fund. Pender Harbour Health Centre - Handicap Accessible Van - $40,000 Pictured in Photo (Left to Right): Geoff Craig, Matt McLean, Eric Scott, Alton Toth, John Rathbone, Darnelda Siegers The Pender Harbour region is isolated from any public transportation. There is no bus service, no taxi service and no HandiDart service. It has a large population of seniors and a low permanent resident population leaving many without immediate neighbours. The purchase of a handicap accessible van will allow the Health Centre to offer transportation services, through a volunteer driver program, to residents for medical appointments and health & wellness programs reducing the demand on ambulance service and community paramedics. Roberts Creek Community Association - Community Hall Roof Replacement - $100,000 Pictured in Photo (Left to Right): Ulla Shina, Eric Scott, James Karliner, Karen Spicer, Alton Toth, Sarah Bradley, Matt McLean, Darnelda Siegers, Geoff Craig 2 nd Floor, 5797 Cowrie Street, PO Box 129, Sechelt, BC, V0N 3A0, (604) 885-1986, Sechelt.ca Page 1 Page 1

  2. News Release The Roberts Creek Community Hall recently celebrated its 85 th anniversary. It has proven to be an essential community asset to the whole Sunshine Coast and is actively used almost every day of the year. The current roof is more than 40 years old and is well beyond its usable life. In addition to age-related leaks developing in many areas, the roof sustained significant damage from a fallen tree in early 2018. Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast - Automated External Defibrillator and Life-saving Flotation Tube Installations - $35,000 Pictured in Photo (Left to Right): Mike Price, Kevin Davie, Geoff Craig, Eric Scott, Matt McLean, Alton Toth, Sharon McDonald, Shiela Gamble, Michael McKenzie, Paul Dhillon, Darnelda Siegers The Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast is trying to save lives. Their proposal to install Automated External Defibrillators and life-saving floatation tubes in areas of community use will improve public safety. There are many recorded instances of AED's in public areas being used to resuscitate a person having a cardiac event. They are simple to use and, during a cardiac event, being able to provide resuscitation within minutes could be the difference between life and death. The flotation tubes have been very effective in other jurisdictions and will provide the opportunity to save lives on the Sunshine Coast. 2 nd Floor, 5797 Cowrie Street, PO Box 129, Sechelt, BC, V0N 3A0, (604) 885-1986, Sechelt.ca Page 2 Page 2
