Objectives

  • NCE was established in 2008 (started

functioning on 15 April 2008) under Tripura JICA Project to address the issue of NTFPs and value addition in a comprehensive manner, with the broad objectives:

– Increasing the productivity of bamboo, cane &

  • ther NTFPs in the region through assured

provision of QPM & technical services; – Promoting livelihood improvement & poverty alleviation activities on an industrial scale & establishment of CCFCs; – Capacity building of various stakeholders in handling bamboo, cane & other NTFPs; & – Facilitating marketing through establishing PPPs.

  • “NCE will be established as an autonomous

society under Societies Registration Act, 1860.” Reasons:

– “NCE will require professional staff, whose recruitment by a Society will be far easier than by a Government Agency, which has to follow the Government regulations on expert procurement, – For the NCE to be sustained after the closure of TFIPAP, it is necessary to have its own income generation mechanism.”

NTFP Productivity enhancement through QPM & Tech transfer

– Bambusetum: 1.84 ha (152 clumps, 25 species) at Ananda Nagar.

  • Rattan arboretum- 5 ha

– 1 ha (147 clumps, 2 species) at Ananda Nagar.

  • Gene Bank- 10 ha

– CPC: 0.65 ha (48 clumps, 8 species) at Ananda Nagar.

  • NTFP Policy- A draft has been prepared. We propose to organize a

national level workshop on NTFP and discuss and finalize it.

  • Expansion of CCFCs for not only optimum utilization of facilities

created, but also to augment it through sound cluster development methodology and utilization of funds available under various Scheme.

  • Training on lean manufacturing at CCFC with the involvement of

MSME DI.

  • NTFP Radio- for dissemination of NTFP information.
  • Development of model projects for rural entrepreneurs in NTFP

.

  • Exclusive website for NCE with digital herbarium posted and

updated.

  • Documentation project in collaboration with FRLHT and CFLE.
