CURRENT NEED: There are known problems with the current floodplain in Swan Lake – first of three houses to flood is located outside of the current floodplain. Based on recent events, restudy the current defined floodplain boundaries and base flood elevation(s) with respect to traditional or previous mapping approaches.

  • New topographic data – LIDAR
  • Better modeling approach HEC-HMS
  • Updated precipitation data
  • Updated infiltration data
  • Allows for update calibration
  • Potential future projects rely on best information
  • Levees, barriers, elevated roadways
  • Provide better information to property owners – flood insurance
