Family violence statistics

  • Tell us how many people using services
  • Limitations and gaps
  • Undercount: e.g. < 20% of family violence is reported to Police
  • Some communities higher levels policing
  • Dependent on reporting and recording practices
  • Cannot be used for trends
  • Administrative data and ethnicity
  • Consistency (categories; one or more)
  • Reliability (how determine ethnicity?)
  • Completeness (many ‘unknown’)
