Chromebooks (7 & 8) and Laptops (9) • If you are attending today, you do not have to attend another Chromebook or Laptop presentation • Prior to your student being issued a computer, you must complete the following documents via Skyward Family Access : • The “Acceptable Use Policy” or AUP • 1:1 Computer Policy Agreement • Distribution dates for devices in science classes: • 9 th Grade: Tuesday, September 3, 2019 (Laptops) • 8 th Grade: Monday, September 5, 2019 (Chromebooks) • 7 th Grade: Monday, September 9, 2019 (Chromebooks)

  5. First Day of School • Tuesday, September 3, 2019: First Day of School • Use doors 1, 2, 7 and 19 to enter school. You can use any door to leave. • Band/Orchestra Instrument Drop Off (Enter via Door 7 or hallways) • Hours: School starts at 7:45 am and ends at 2:55 pm 7:15 am: The school is open to all students. Prior to 7:15 am, students must remain by the main office 7:15-7:45 am: Breakfast is served in the cafeteria and/or students report to their holding areas:  Seventh Grade: Third Floor  Eighth Grade: Second Floor  Ninth Grade: First Floor  LMC: All students The first day students will report by 7:45am to Advisory. Advisory = “Homeroom” and is listed on top of their schedule. •

First Day of School • Lockers • Staff will be present before, during, and after school to assist with lockers. • Schedule • Advisory assignments are posted on your schedule, in the cafeteria, and on each floor (by the bathrooms) • Students will be issued a new blue schedule in Advisory on the first day of school. The blue schedule may be slightly different from the white schedule they received today due to balancing classes, etc.

Folders • Locker rules and procedures • Parent Permission for the Administration of Over the Counter Medication (turn in to the student services or main office) • Healthy Smiles • Back to School Night information (Monday, Sept 9: 7-8:35 pm) • Yearbook (Jostens) • Picture day information (Lifetouch) • Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6 (in PE classes)

  8. Schedules • Advisory classroom (labeled Homeroom middle top) • Random • Locker number and combination (Middle top) • Random in all grades. Floor assignments • Number 3250 (first number is the floor) • Keypad (lunch). Same as in elementary school. Upper right • Semester 1 and Semester 2 • Eight period day. (1,2,3,4,5A, 5B, 6B, 7 and 8) • Day 1 and Day 2 (D1 or D2) • Term: YR, S (1 or 2), and T (T1, T2, T3 and T4) • Room (do not confuse with Course/Cls) • Teacher (you can have more than one) or SSC Team • You will receive a new schedule on the first day of school in advisory (blue)

  9. Lockers • Rules and procedures located in your folder • Assistance is provided on each floor (students/staff/custodians) • Open House on Monday, August 26, 2019 (11:00 am-7:00 pm) • The school is open (a few exceptions) from 6:00 am – 8:00 pm each day. Practice, Practice, Practice!

  11. Lunch • Place money in your account (envelope or online payment) • Each student account is part of their family account • Account/keypad numbers are the same as elementary school • Both lines serve the same food • Open seating in the cafeteria • Extra time is provided the first few days

Student Tips for Success • Advocate for yourself and ask questions • Attend school and be on time for class • State attendance rule: 0-5 absences = low; 6-9 = medium; 10+ = high risk • Be organized • Planner (Social Studies will provide a non-graded entry into Skyward) • Be prepared • Study for your summative assessments and complete your formative assessments • Listen • Advice is free, listen to it • Talk to your parent/guardians about school

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Rules o Do not use the bus entrance (all day) o Do not park or let student exit your vehicle by the cement barriers in the parking lot before or after school o Do not drive your vehicle in the courtyard area (all day) o After school (2:55 pm), do not park on the areas outlined in yellow (east side of the parking lot) o Right turn only on the corner of Sims St. and Michigan St. during posted times o Do not park on Michigan St. in the morning. Quick exit. Signs o When traveling north on Michigan from Main, do not turn left onto College during posted times (slide 19) o When dropping off on Michigan from Main, pull all the way forward (bus entrance) o When turning north onto Michigan , do not block the corner of Michigan and Main (accident prevention)

Important Dates • First Day of School: Tuesday, September 3, 2019 (7:45 am) • Picture Day: Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6 (in PE) • Back to School Night: Monday, September 9, 2019 • 7:00 – 8:35 pm • Meet your student’s teachers • Receive a syllabus which includes teachers’ test retake and late work policies • Parent Teacher Conferences, Fall and Spring o 2019-2020 School Calendar (Fall: November 7 and 11) o Arena style or in their classrooms; no reservations

  24. Tips for Parents • Talk to your student about school on a daily basis. Review their planner! • Encourage your student to advocate for themself • Have your student attend school on a regular basis • Attend school functions (Back to School Night and P/T Conferences) • Have guidelines established at home that support success at school: • Computer and cell phone use (out of their bedrooms at night) • Regular sleep schedule • Study routine • Prepare for the next day • Don’t panic • Questions or concerns, please contact us as we’re here to help!
