Int er erag agen ency c collab aborat at ion brings together child and fam ily-serving agencies from the public, private, and faith-based sectors. Exam ples include child w elfare, m ental health, juvenile justice, education, and health in partnership to provide needed services. For exam ple, m ental health and the local schools w ork together so that a child w ith behavioral issues is not im m ediately suspended from school. Individual alized ed, s st ren engt h-bas ased ed p prac act ices es identify and build on the strengths of the fam ily and child. Fam ilies are included in creating an individual plan to provide needed services. This ensures services are easy to access, effective, and m atch the culture and language

Cult ural al c com pet et en ence in the System of Care is built on the notion that in order to w ork effectively w ith a child and fam ily, there m ust be an understanding of the fam ily’s culture, race, values, and ethnic background.
