Equity Challenges

MSJC Research Indicates

  • First-year college students average 3% below mean success and retention rates. (4,500 students)
  • Persistence rates for First-Year students are a major problem, 46% drop out during their first year.
  • Students in remediation courses average 6% below college level success rate. (5,000 students)
  • Transition rate from remedial to college level is very low. The further below college level, the lower the

transition rate. In the lowest level math less than 12% transition to college level math.

  • African Americans average 12% points below the mean success rate and degree completion rate. (1,100

students)

  • Foster Youth are as much as 20% below average on all metrics. (150 students)
  • 20-24 year old population averages 2% points below the mean success rate. (5,500 students)
