Caitlin Miron, PhD student Anne Petitjean Group, Department of Chemistry, Queen’s University

In collaboration with the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology in France, and with support from a Mitacs award, Caitlin broke new ground in the biochemistry world with her discovery of a DNA binder that could ‘switch off’ cancer cells and prevent them from spreading.

E lig ibility: Students cannot undertake a research project at an institution where they have previously completed a degree and/or been employed Students cannot undertake a research project in a country where they hold citizenship (unless they are a permanent resident or citizen of Canada). Must be registered as full-time senior undergraduates or graduate students at a Canadian university and remain as such throughout their Globalink Research Award

Mitacs sends an outcome letter ~10-12 weeks following submission Student completes International Pre-Departure and Code of Conduct forms, respectively, and confirms their project dates Mitacs funds will be sent to the home university’s Office of Research Services (or equivalent) and administered as a research grant in the home supervisor’s name Projects must begin within one year of the outcome letter being issued.
