  2. PLAN DEVELOPMENT QUALIFYING STATEMENT M I For the 2020-21 school year this plan: L L 1. Serves as the framework for our practices and procedures E 2. Guidance from CDC, DOH, SED, Governor, Suffolk County R 3. Does not address every possible scenario P 4. Addresses social distancing recommendations L 5. Prioritizes (a) safety (minimize risk) and (b) instruction A C 6. It will change (it already has) E 7. We value K-12 public education, but this year, our instruction and classroom is going to be different We need to figure this out together

  4. MASK AND FACE COVERINGS M M I I • REQUIRED to be worn by all staff and students. L L District will provide face coverings for individuals arriving to the buildings without one L L • LOCATIONS include school buses, in common E E areas of school buildings, and in classrooms during instruction R R • MASK BREAK SCHEDULES elementary every 30 minutes for 5 minutes and secondary students in the middle of the period for 5 minutes P P • MASK BREAK AREAS are being designated for L L secondary students A A • MASKS ARE NOT REQUIRED during a mask break, when they are eating/drinking, during physical C C education classes E E • There is a provision for parents to submit medical documentation regarding a child who may not be medically able to wear a mask for extended periods of time

HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Screening and Temperature Check Protocols L L L L E E R R FACULTY AND STAFF: Are required to check their temperature and complete a COVID-19 screening questionnaire daily prior to arriving at school. P P L L STUDENTS: Parents/guardians should not send students to school with A A a fever >100°F or symptoms of COVID-19. Student temperature C C screening will take place at each school upon arrival. E E

  6. HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L L L ISOLATION ROOMS: E E Ill students and staff will be assessed and isolated in a separate designated room, not the health office. R R VISITORS: P P 1. Will be limited except for picking up a sick child. 2. There will be no drop off of student items during the school day. L L 3. Daily health screenings form for visitors, guests, contractors, and vendors, who will be A A required to sign and acknowledge that they are COVID-19 symptom free and are required to C C wear a face covering. 4. Parent meetings will be virtual to the extent possible using Google and Zoom (needed faculty E E licenses being purchased) 5. No indoor use of facilities by community organizations. 6. Outdoor use of facilities permitted following social distancing requirements.

HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L L L HALLWAYS: directional signage is being installed to alleviate traffic E E congestion, and hand sanitizing dispensers have been installed next to the hallway R R door for all classrooms P P SIGNAGE: proper respiratory hygiene and social distancing verbiage/graphics L L distributed throughout hallways and classrooms in each building to enforce proper A A C C social distancing protocols E E

  8. HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L L L SECONDARY LOCKERS – Hallways and PE – will not be used during the E E 2020-21 school year. R R SECONDARY MUSCIAL INSTRUMENTS – Can still be stored in the P P music room cages L L REVISED CODE OF CONDUCT – Social distancing information, and no A A elementary students will be allowed to have nut products in classrooms. This C C will be added to the District’s Code of Conduct as part of parents and E E students responsibilities.

  9. HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L L L DAILY SANITIZING: high touch areas will be sanitized daily, restrooms E E R R will be monitored for cleanliness throughout the day. Operations Union staff is being hired and repurposed to address enhanced cleaning during the P P school day. L L A A CLEANING PRODUCTS: Over the summer an independent contactor C C was hired to conduct a certification check that cleaning products are E E working accordingly.

  10. HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L VENTILATION: L L E E 1. Utilizing the installed unit ventilators and air handlers that provide fresh air into an occupied space while mixing it with inside air prior to passing the air over the R R coils before air is pushed into the room. 2. Independent contractor was hired over the summer to confirm/certify that the unit P P ventilators and air handlers are working properly and filters have been changed L L accordingly. A A 3. Air Purifiers have been ordered for areas that do not have exterior windows. C C 4. Windows will be opened/cracked for increased fresh air. E E 5. Window air conditioners and fans cannot be installed in classrooms for non- medical reasons as they are counterproductive in trying to not circulate germs throughout the area.

HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L L L BATHROOMS: paper towels have been installed to replace E E hand dryers R R HAND WASHING STATIONS: have been ordered for each P P school to increase access for students to wash their hands L L A A ELEMENTARY DESK SHIELDS: have been ordered for all C C E E student desks

HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L L L FIRE DRILLS: will be scheduled according to SED requirements E E (no changes to date) R R EVACUATION and OTHER EMERGENCY DRILLS: may be P P L L conducted verbally and not violate social distancing requirements A A C C STORAGE CONTAINERS: are being delivered to each school to E E store excess furniture and cabinets

  13. HEALTH AND SAFETY M M I I Building Protocols L L L L What if there is a confirmed case of a student or adult having COVID-19? E E Suffolk County Department of Heath is responsible for: R R  Procedures and notifications P P  Contact tracing L L  Positive cases are reviewed on a case-by-case basis A A C C  Recommendations for testing (the District does not conduct any testing on-site for anyone) E E  Quarantine recommendations will be made to the Superintendent of Schools

  14. Building Logistics M M I I Building Entry and Exit Points: L L L L Staff – has been designed for each school with multiple points with the availability of E E staggered arrival times R R Students – has been designed for each school and may not align with the arrival and dismissal times of buses P P L L Libraries – Might not be used as an instructional setting A A Outdoor Tents – Were ordered in the spring and have been delivered. It is C C anticipated they will be used for recess, PE, art, music, instruction based on teacher E E request.

Building Logistics M M I I L L L L Staff Travel Between Buildings - Attempt to minimize when possible E E Secondary Passing Time - Has been increased to five minutes R R Senior Parking – Will be allowed as students may attend the required P P driving course virtually L L School Tool – Reviewed software modifications that may be needed A A C C E E

Building Logistics M M I I As per Governor Cuomo, schools can reopen for the 2020-21 school year L L under the following criteria: L L ☑ COVID-19 regional infection rate below 5% E E R R Region is Nassau and Suffolk County P P School Calendar – Will be readopted August 26, 2020 L L  Faculty, Superintendent Conference Days, September 8 th and 9 th A A C C  Students, Elementary and Secondary Cohort 2, September 10 th E E  Students, Secondary Cohort 1, September 14 th  May be modified throughout the year

  17. SCHOOL SCHEDULE: ELEMENTARY M M I I ANDREW MULLER PRIMARY SCHOOL L L LADDIE A. DECKER SOUND BEACH SCHOOL L L E E R R • On-site Instruction will be five days per week • Projected approximately 17 students per classroom P P L L • Masks required at all times except for scheduled breaks and meals A A • Lunch in classrooms C C • Library, physical education, art and music included in the E E elementary program • 100% Virtual Option will be five days per week (added 8/12/20)

  18. ELEMENTARY Classrooms M M I I ANDREW MULLER PRIMARY SCHOOL L L LADDIE A. DECKER SOUND BEACH SCHOOL L L E E R R • Laminated charts will be allowed on the walls and cabinet doors. They must be secured/taped, in a P P specific manner to reduce the possibility of germs L L A A adhering to the back of the chart. No paper items C C are to be taped to the wall. E E • Students will be allowed to leave their personal instructional items in their desk each night.
