Safety Committee Update

  • Safety Committee was started in to

1. Understand the current liability posture 2. Identify areas of concern 3. Mitigate risks with standardized review process 4. Communicate safety policy and procedures to members, collaborators, public 1. ACS Midland Section is incorporated, limited personal liability of

  • members. National ACS maintains a comprehensive business

insurance policy providing $1,000,000 in general liability coverage. 2. Midland ACS could likely be held responsible at a co-sponsored event where other participants are not adhering to ACS minimum safety standards. It was determined that the ACS standards should be provided at such an event.

H2OQ Continuation Funding Proposals

  • CERM 2019 - Anticipated fund surplus ~$100-115k

– Typically, surplus split 75% local section/25% region – Proposal $75k used for 1:1 match fund for continuation of regional experiment connected to CERM

  • $20k/CERM maximum
  • Managed by Midland local section with oversight by District II and ACS National

H2OQ Continuation Funding Proposals

  • CERM 2020 (Columbus)

– IPG for $2K for Midland to train Columbus section in H2OQ. Does not cover cost of kits. – Proposal: Midland supply kits (currently sourced from about 4 different vendors + website + instructions + map).

  • Kit requests are continuing through word-of-mouth. Formalizing

partnerships with:

– Michigan EGLE and SeaGrant Institute – Midland & Bullock Creek schools are booking for nature center in spring.
