  8. Phonics Screening Check  This is designed to check whether children have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate level. – Phase 5 sounds.  There will be 20 real words and 20 pseudo-words to be read aloud to me, with a few practise questions to check they understand the process. I will make it as fun as it is possible to and try to ensure the children feel that it is just another part of what we do in school.  Letters and Sounds sessions will continue throughout the year. In the first half term all children will be taught together as a class with differentiation, and then later in the year we will stream across Reception, Year1 and Year2.

  9. White Rose Maths • This scheme of learning supports a mastery approach to the teaching and learning of the aims and objectives of Mathematics in the current National Curriculum. • It systematically develops children’s fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. • Number lies at the heart of all teaching and learning in the scheme. • It supports the concept of depth and independence. • Competency is built through the concrete – pictorial – abstract approach to learning.

  18. Reporting Absence If your child is ill or has an appointment, the most direct way is to • inform the school by text, email and phone. Or you can telephone the school office by 9am. For an appointment, you will be asked to fill in an absence request form – which can be downloaded from our website or ask the ladies in the office. • Authorised absence can cover a bout of illness, appointments, a religious observance, close family bereavement or absence due to exceptional circumstances. • The fundamental principles for defining “exceptional circumstances” are that they are rare, e, signific ificant, ant, unavoida idable le and short. • Holidays are therefore not considered exceptional circumstances as it is an event that could be rescheduled outside of term-time. • The DfE 2013 amendments make it very clear that schools may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless “exceptional circumstances” prevail. • Applications for a leave of absence in exceptional circumstances form can be found on our website obtained from our office.
