MISSION

 Ensure that students with disabilities have equitable access to University

programs, services, activities, and facilities

 Applicable laws:

 Section 504, Rehabilitation Act of 1973  Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and ADA Amendments Act of 2008

(ADAAA)

 No longer IDEA (governs K-12 and facilitates success)

 Must perform same competencies in courses

DOCUMENT

 Submit documentation of disability to ODSS – scan/email, fax, mail  Definition of disability:  limits one or more major life activities and participation in courses, programs, services, jobs, activities,

and/or facilities

 Documentation must be from appropriate medical or mental health professional  Psychoeducational or Psychological Evaluation or Re-Eval. (from school psychologist, private

psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.)

 Letter from medical professional (doctor, audiologist, etc.)  May use one of our forms – contact ODSS to obtain

 Must contain recommendations for reasonable accommodations

PLAN OF ACCOMMODATION

If approved, we collaboratively develop Plan of Accommodation.

Could include (most common):

“Letter of Accommodation”:

STUDENT sends to professors & STUDENT meets with/talks to Prof to implement academic accommodations, with my support

Notification to Housing, Dining, Facilities, etc.

Referral to on- or off-campus offices/agencies (OVR, Counseling, Tutoring, Sight Services, etc.)
