This wisdom is only available to those who have a covenant relationship with God and it is only they who could pass it on those who are also in a covenant relationship with God.

This should be a rebuke to us parents who have many lame excuses for not teaching our children ourselves. David should be commended in that even in his busy life as a king, he was not derelict in his divine duty to instruct his son Solomon on the ways

Prov Proverbs 4:1 4:1-9
“6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.”
Deuteronomy 6
LIVING IN THE WISDOM OF GOD
“1 Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention that you may gain understanding, 2 For I give you sound teaching; Do not abandon my
son to my father, Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother, 4 Then he taught me and said to me,”
Rationale to giving attention to God’s word: to gain understanding on how
to live one’s life properly.
LIVING IN THE WISDOM OF GOD
Solomon’s description of his teaching: It
is sound (tested and proven; the source of course is God’s infinite and perfect wisdom).
“1 Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention that you may gain understanding, 2 For I give you sound teaching; Do not abandon my
son to my father, Tender and the only son in the sight

Admonition to stay the course of wisdom
LIVING IN THE WISDOM OF GOD
Admonition to stay the course of wisdom It is not enough that this wisdom be listened to, but it must be embraced and applied. Interestingly, Solomon’s son Rehoboam, abandoned the wisdom of his father and lost 10 of Israel’s tribes to Jeroboam. The result of this was centuries of civil war.
“1 Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention that you may gain understanding, 2 For I give you sound teaching; Do not abandon my
son to my father, Tender and the only son in the sight
taught me and said to me,”
LIVING IN THE WISDOM OF GOD
Admonition to stay the course of wisdom In fairness to Rehoboam, it was Solomon who first abandoned that wisdom and generations to come paid dearly for this apostasy.
“1 Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention that you may gain understanding, 2 For I give you sound teaching; Do not abandon my
son to my father, Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother, 4 Then he taught me and said to me,”
