History – Modern Britain began in 1066 with the Battle of Hastings and the Norman invasion of England. Britain has had a monarchy ever since (with a brief civil war in the 17th Century). Our current Queen, Elizabeth II, has been on the throne for 67 years. To visit Britain is to visit a modern country with a sense of pride in our own history.
