Purpose
Offer high school credit to 8th graders
upon the completion of the Algebra 1 Honors course.
Extend opportunities for advanced
math or non-math courses in future high school years.
Earning High School Credit
In order for t he st udent t o earn high school credit and have t he
course grade calculat ed int o t heir high school GP A he/ she must have a:
- Minimum of 70%
earned for a course grade
Any st udent not reaching t he goal will not receive high school
credit for Algebra 1 Honors and will not have t he course grade calculat ed int o t he st udent ’s high school GP A.

ince t he course t aught wit h an Honors Curriculum, t he grade will be weight ed.
Future Mathematics Courses
The table below is a general guideline for a student’s future
enrollment based on achievement in the 8th grade Algebra 1 course.
This table serves only as a guideline for future course placement and
does not guarantee that a student will be placed into the freshman year course associated with the 8th Grade Algebra I course grade. Teacher recommendations and other anecdotal information may be utilized to more accurately place a student in subsequent mathematics courses.
S tudent Grade Portal
Parents will be able to access their child’s
grades through PowerS chool, the online grading portal.
Each student and parent will be given login
access so they can track the progress of their students.
Discipline Policies
While we do not expect there to be any discipline
problems, please note the following interventions/ outcomes for discipline:
Cheating – Zero for the assignment/ test with no
possibility for make-up; Phone call to parents and home
- school. A second occurrence will result in the student
being dropped from the class.
Misbehavior – Phone call to parents and home
- school. Persistent issues will be reported to the
home school’s administrator in order for him/ her to determine the consequences. If misbehavior continues, the student may be dropped from the class.
S tudent ID’s
S
tudents will be issued an LPHS school ID and a lanyard.
S
tudents are required to wear it to board the LPHS bus and while in the building per the LPHS S tudent Handbook policy.
Student Attendance
All student absences will need to be reported to
the LPHS Attendance Office.
All students will attend class based on the LPHS
- Calendar. S
tudents will also take semester exams based on this calendar.
If the student’s home school is not in session, the
student will still attend Algebra at LPHS .
Curriculum
With the goal of the course to help our
students reach the higher level math courses, this course will be taught using our Algebra 1 Honors curriculum.
The goal is for students to be ready for
Geometry Honors in the Fall of 2020.

Assessments
All unit and final assessment will be
provided by LPHS .
All students in 8t h grade Algebra 1 will take
the SAME common assessment as our Honors Algebra 1 courses.

Technology
S
tudents will be issued an LPHS email account and LPHS network access.
S
tudents will also use 8th grade Algebra Google Classroom regularly.
Usage of this technology will require the completion
- f the District’s technology forms.
If the student’s middle school doesn’ t provide
technology (i.e.: Chromebook) then students will use LPHS
- technology. S
tudents will be subj ect to the LPHS Technology Policy.
Before School Procedures
If you are driving your child to school, the drop off is at 6th
S
- treet. S
tudents must enter at the main entrance.
Buses will drop off on 6th S
treet near the tennis courts and students must enter using the main entrance.
Places to go before school: Earliest arrival time is 7:00 am –
S uggested arrival time is 7:30 am
Before 7:30: Math Lab in Room 343 After 7:30: Teacher’s classroom
After Class Procedures
Buses will pick up on 6th S
treet near tennis courts.
Parents will pick up on 6th S
treet near the main entrance.
S
tudent’s whose buses will be arriving after the scheduled end of class will go to the S tudent Commons to wait for their bus.
