Wineries EL TANINO is located in the emblematic region of Los Altos de Santiago in Hoya Gonzalo, province

• f Albacete.

Constituted in January 2006, the winery is integrated by partners of Hoya Gonzalo, Chinchilla de Montearagón, Higueruela, Bonete y Pozo Cañada, between which is concentrated production estimated of 3 million Kg of grape, and around 90% belongs to Garnacha Tintorera´s variety, being the rest of the production, varieties like Syrah, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Monastrell, Sauvignon Blanc, Macabeo and Chardonnay (in his white variety). The main goal of the winery is to promote these varieties and principally the Garnacha Tintorera´s one, in spite of being de most unknown of them, it has demonstrated an aromatic potential of red fruits very long- lived for harvest and vintage wines. In our facilities, we have cold scrappers and isothermal equipments to stabilize wines in the best situation in

• rder to not alter their organoleptic qualities. Also is available a room of French and American oak´s barrels

which have a reconditioning system of temperature and humidity, to obtain high quality wines.

ORIGIN AND CULTURE

Wineries El TANINO belongs to D.O. ALMANSA. The denomination is found in the oriental part of Albacete province, only 30 km from Albacete capital. Because of its territorial situation proximate to Levant, Hoya Gonzalo, was populated by towns belong to the Iberian culture. The first archeological remains that belong to Iberian populations were founded in Hoya Gonzalo.

The “Iberian horseman on horse” is the emblem of the winery and it represents the culture and the viticulture vocation in this area.

Between the archeological rests is outlined the complex sculpture that represents a mounted warrior at the beginnings of the V B.C. century. its considered the biggest Iberian sculpture (1,8 m). It’s an unquestionable piece of beauty, and was exhibited during the EXPO`92 of Sevilla in Castilla-La Mancha´s pavilion. Nowadays, we can find it in the Provincial Museum of Albacete, being one of them best pieces.

LAND AND CLIMATE

Our region is located in an altitude between 800 & 1.000 m. Lands are limestone with few organic matter, sandy texture and shallow, what creates low productions. The annual pluviometer over our area is middle and lower-middle, around 400 l annual per m2, with an period of sunshine of 3.000 sunny hours per year. Summers are hottest, arriving to reach 44º C and winters are moderates, arriving barely to temperatures under -8ºC. High thermal leaps between day and night are very beneficial in the obtaining of good quality red grape, as it favors the synthesis of polyphenols and so the colorant matter. The conditions of the land and climate that extremely for the farming favors low productions and the maturation process of the fruit, with great color, tannin and bouquet concentration. That all provides to the berry a high expression of the genetic characteristics.

THE VINEYARD

The predominant variety is the Garnacha Tintorera in a 70%, the rest is concluded by Syrah, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Monastel, Sauvignon Blanc, Macabeo and Chardonnay varieties. The Garnacha Tintorera derives from the cross of the Petit Bouchet with Garnacha Tinta (the French Grenache). And it was introduced around the year of 1.800 by French commercials, in Alicante´s zone, as a result of the Filoxera´s attack. Denominated this way because of its colored pulp and for have a colorant intensity higher than the rest

• f the varieties worldwide. The Garnacha Tintorera has a great polyphenolic load.

Elaborated in cold for not lost the varietals bouquets, it obtains different wines, which get profit of its fatty and sensual tannins, novels wines with big concentration and composition, very dense and color- intense, vigorous, of strong color and dull, with dark cherry tones, a marked palate and very intense fruit bouquets, potent, full and fresh in the mouth. If the grapes are cultivates in poor ground and of low capacity, the reds can reach an impressive expression and strength. It produces excellent red wines, therefore some Garnacha´s wines are very esteemed.
