Entry to the International Section

Two compulsory procedures

• A series of English tests to

rank pupils out of 250 marks

• A report grid completed by

the French class teacher and the English teacher. 50 marks are available to quantify such aspects as effort, concentration,

• rganisational

skills, participation in class and motivation.

English assessment

• All CM2 pupils wishing to

apply for the International Section will sit tests at our South Kensington site

• n

Saturday 14th March 2020 from 9am – 12pm.

• These are B1/B2 level tests.

There will be a listening comprehension, a reading comprehension and two short writing tasks.

CM2 End of Primary English Assessment

Written tests

• ALL CM2 pupils will take these tests.
• They will be held between Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd April in the pupils’ own schools.
• Pupils will either take the A1/A2 beginner / lower intermediate level or the B1/B2 advanced / fluent

level.

• Reading aloud and oral interaction are assessed continuously by the class teacher.

The information below applies to both the International Section tests and the End

• f Primary CM2 tests:
• The reading comprehension is composed of three parts: information retrieval,

inference and vocabulary.

• The writing paper is based on writing styles that have been studied in CM2.
• The tests have been designed to give a snapshot of a pupil’s NATURAL ABILITY

in English. This is vital so that we will be confident that a pupil will cope well in the group into which he/she is placed.

• Schools will be sent mock tests in January so pupils know what to expect in the
• spring. There are no further practise papers available.

Passerelle 3ème/2nde

• Students can elect to leave the International Section at the

end of 3eme.

• Students from SP can apply to enter the SI: they can do the

IGCSE in English Language. Some may also take the IGCSE in English Literature depending on their ability to catch up on the 3ème SI programme.

La 2nde générale

• Possibilité de suivre l’OIB (option

internationale du baccalauréat, sur demande pour les élèves qui viennent de la section internationale, sur test pour les autres)

• Même

choix linguistiques qu’au collège (attention, toutes les langues sont en continuation : pas de grands débutants en classe de seconde)

• IGCSE Language / Literature- These

are compulsory for all SI students and comprise 4 written exams and 1 oral exam in May of 2nde. It is a 2-year course and students start to prepare in 3ème.
