Tips for Parents…

Recognize the importance of setting directions for the future by encouraging your son/ daughter to consider:

  • Where they are now
  • Where they want to go; and
  • How they are going to get there

(look to the future, but be informed by the past)

Set aside time for this discussion…

For All students…

These dates are common throughout the YRDSB to allow families the opportunity to review the Grade 8 mid year report card and make inform choices. Your choices help create the school’s ‘master timetable’ … How many classes of each subject; in what period; in what semester etc.

slide-32
SLIDE 32
  • Use the next few weeks to consider your choices.

Review you Grade 8 mid-year report card and speak with Grade 8 teachers.

  • Remember you are choosing Grade 9 courses…the

courses at the beginning of high school.

  • Making the best choice for you in Grade 9

is important.

  • You want to have a successful

transition to Grade 9.

slide-33
SLIDE 33
  • All students will receive a

Course Verification Sheet in late March.

  • This is another
  • pportunity to review/

revise/ confirm your choices based on your Grade 8 progress.

slide-34
SLIDE 34

then...

  • KCSS administration creates the timetable
  • Student graduates from Grade 8
  • Can complete Community Involvement hours
  • Enjoy the summer… expect a letter from KCSS to

highlight the September ‘Registration’ process

  • School starts - 1st day is for Grade 9 students only
