APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS - THE BASICS

  • Understanding (and modifying) behavior in the context of

environment is the basis for ABA therapies.

  • ABA uses positive reinforcement in a way that can be

measured in order to bring about meaningful behavior change.

  • Verbal Behavior motivates a child, teen, or adult to learn

language by connecting words with their purposes. What is Natural Environment Teaching? Teaching away from the table

  • Elements of NET:

– What you want to teach – identifying reinforcers – Being creative in teaching targets, and having fun!

DATA = CAMP QUALITY

  • To create a great camp where kids make progress, we need accurate

assessments and good data. Assessment tools – VB-MAPP; AFLS; Social Skills Profile Data collection - Collecting data allow us to determine appropriate targets, as well as camper progress. Camp quality – Training provided by the Autism Center at The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart – Both Lead coaches and assistant coaches are professionals with a high level of ABA knowledge and experience working with our camp model Lines of Authority
