What is CAMP ? What is CAMP ?

CAMP (College Assistance Migrant Program)

  • Federally-funded (U.S. Department of Education) program
  • Provide financial and academic support students whose

history are migrant/seasonal farm work.

  • This 5 year grant provides $350,000 /year.
  • 88 percent of CAMP students successfully completed their first year of college.
  • Nearly three-quarters of all CAMP students graduate with baccalaureate

degrees.

How does one How does one Qualify for Qualify for CAMP? CAMP?

  • Be a permanent resident or citizen.
  • Be eligible for OSU admissions and enter OSU as a 1st year

student.

  • Either the student or his/her parents worked at least 75 days in

the past 24 months in migrant/seasonal farm work (including crop, dairy, poultry or livestock production, the cultivation or harvesting of trees, or work on a fish farm) OR are eligible or have participated in a Migrant Education Program (Grants to assist with high school completion) OR attended the High school Equivalency Program (HEP) within the last 12 months and have completed a GED.

Farm worker?

Farm workers are typically: Seasonal workers employed in agricultural work in their area during harvests, or Migrant workers who travel long distances from a home base, often outside the country, to work one or more agricultural jobs for a portion of the year.

The US Department of Labor’s National Agricultural Workers Survey estimated that there were 2,080,000 farm worker dependants traveling with the workers in 1997, bringing the total estimate to approximately 3.7 million people.
