with an annual average population growth of 3.30%

  • In comparison, the annual average growth of

Kgetlengrivier Municipality has exceeded that of the District which is at 2.26% while Madibeng LM is at 3.18% and Rustenburg LM is at 3.11%

  • This sharp annual increase calls for attention to

respond to the developmental needs of the area

  • At least 67.9% of Municipal population is aged

between 15-65 years old and classified as potential economically active population

  • Mining is seen as main economic sector with

at least 23.5% with trade rating at 19.8% and finance at 17.7%

  • Internal observation indicates that Agriculture

has more potential to contribute to local economy even though the research shows that it only contributes about 8.8% to the local economy

  • Agriculture in terms of sector contribution is the

least but at about 12.4% in terms of employment contribution after 25.2% of mining and 24.6% of trade sectors

  • Agriculture, Mining and trade are seen as key

economic strength of the Municipality

  • Some advantages are availability of rich

soil(Agriculture), Water availability(agriculture), availability of Slate(Mining) and locational position-N4 route (Tourism & Trade)

  • As per the current LED strategy for the local

municipality, the following projects were identified for

  • implementation. Most or all of these projects have

never been implemented due to lack of funds

  • AGRICULTURE SECTOR: The intention is to give proper

support to up coming individual farmers and local agricultural cooperative

  • PROJECT: Introduction of rural agricultural hubs
  • PROJECT: Establishment of Agro Tourism
  • PROJECT: Establishment of Agro processing plant(s)
