Why travel is important

slide-5
SLIDE 5

Travel, like raising kids or doing a job, or any kind of experience is how you gather the raw materials. It’s how you go to the market of a place

  • f life. What you do back in the

kitchen is the stillness part. Stillness is how you take all of those raw materials and make a meal or a life

  • ut of it. It is how you take the sights

you have seen in the world and try to turn them into insights. ~Pico Iyer, Writer and Philosopher

SLIDE 6
  • We know that many of our students have been to

Europe and/ or plan to travel to Europe in the near future, and Japan offers something different.

  • This trip would offer our students a unique set of

experiences upon which to reflect and launch from Westmount into our globalized world with an enriched pantry of ingredients.

  • It would feed their heightened inner capacity for

emotional and intellectual reflection thus broadening their appreciation of people who, for most, have a vastly different perspective on the human experience rooted in Japanese culture, history and geography.

The minimal amount of students for this trip to go is 30 and the maximum will be 66—a tour bus in Japan only holds 44 people. When you decide this trip is a viable experience, you will first submit contact information on the provided Google Form—see last slide. On this form, students must submit reasons why they want to participate on the trip, and how the trip will contribute to them being a better global citizen. Selected students will be informed via email upon returning from spring break, 2019.
