Con Conce cept pt Note
Since time immemorial the security has been the cornerstone of nations. Post-Westphalian Treaty, the state has been the protector of the nation’s security. Nonetheless, it is the action
- f human beings which steers the state decisions. These human actions have been a major
contributor to the threats and conflicts thathas plagued the domestic and international order. Over-exploitation of the resources has led to environmental imbalance; non-accommodation
- f diverse cultures and political conflicts has resulted in internal displacements and cross-
border migration. Economic needs have forced people to get involved in inhumane activities such as piracy and various kinds of trafficking. Power which is a shield of security has brought conflicts within states and beyond. The issues related to security are not only limited to the realm of formal established institutions such as state but also tied to root human factors such as search for identity which often lead to dogmatic interpretation of religion, and creation of extremist groups. These groups have created terror among people, disturbing the established stable order. All these mentioned irregularities are the result of human actions directly or indirectly. If human actions can create instability, then it is definite that the same can also be the agent
- f bringing stability. It was this human endeavour which was instrumental in the birth of
United Nations (UN), which today is one of the principal organs responsible for global
- security. Nobel Peace Prize winners like Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi are examples
- f individuals who have played a key role in creating awareness about human security.
