Meeting Objective and Next Steps

5

 Tonight’s Objective

 Review Project Alternatives

— Different alternative components – phased approach — Short/medium-term and longer-term alternatives — Review alternative performance, impacts and costs

 Receive & Address Selectboard’s preliminary comments

 Next Steps

 Selectboard Selection of Preferred Alternative(s): November 4th

— As the Exit 12 Project moves into the NEPA phase of project development, the

preferred alternative might change based on more detailed environmental and

  • ther resource impact evaluation

— There will be constant communication between VTrans, FHWA and Williston

 Exit 12 Presentation to CIRC Alternatives Task Force: November 7th  CIRC Alternatives Phase 3 Implementation Package: November 21st  Draft & Final Scoping Report: December/January

Exit 12 Purpose & Need Statement

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Exit 12 Project is to develop transportation system improvements that enhance safety for all users; reduce traffic congestion and facilitate mobility for people and goods; improve bicycle and pedestrian network connectivity; and accommodate economic growth in the Exit 12 interchange area and VT 2A corridor (in the vicinity of the exit).

NEEDS

Improve safety for all users in the project area

  • Address the High Crash Locations in the project area
  • Provide for safe and efficient bicycle and pedestrian travel

Reduce traffic congestion and enhance mobility for all users in the project area

  • Roadway improvements to reduce congestion & improve efficiency of the highway

system

  • Develop bicycle and pedestrian facilities that connect the existing shared use paths and

sidewalks north of Exit 12 with destinations south of the interchange. Accommodate Economic Growth in the project area

  • Provide the necessary infrastructure to support Williston’s plan for dense mixed-use

development in the Designated Growth Center
