Imagine a World in which…

› … demand on critical items increases 20 to 30 x over night › … your known supplier base ceases to exist and fails you miserably › … prices increase by 1,000% › … agreed payment and incoterm conditions vanish & change constantly › … regular transportation modes fail › … lead-times suddenly grow by weeks to the point that no one confirms dates › … acts of piracy become the new norm of trading › … markets get inundated by poor quality materials

No more rules RL

Set a Vision

› With rules of engagement changing in the SC ecosystem – you need to change

your internal rules & processes too

› Speed is of the essence – decisions need to be made within h and min, not days › Prioritize until it hurts › Adapt the management system › Reconfigure jobs and missions around the tasks at hand – forget the org chart › Asking for forgiveness is sometimes easier than asking for permission › Engage the team around one simple guideline:

No doctor or nurse will complain about anything missing – all for the patient MS

Process

› Exhaust your existing supplier base immediately – take what you can get › Understand where the journey leads us & extract future demand › Develop new channels – new.supplier@hopitauxschuman.lu › Beef up the team with needed competency › Procure & source - Innovate where needed › Manage your inventory and supply › Be creative on transportation › Financial Management › Follow-up Analytics

Learnings & what would we do differently…

› Engaging the team around one simple mission works › Innovation brings solutions if you really push it › External competency is there and ready to help if you simply ask › Learning from others allows you to be ahead of the curve › Sourcing Models need to be futureproofed for the next crisis (strategic stocks) › China dependency needs to be revisited – in production and transportation › Contractual agreements work in a normal time but are a handicap in a crisis › Luxembourg is to small to not cooperate amongst hospitals › Learn to manage solidarity and external help
