ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The following additional requirements for graduation have been added:

 All students must complete an Academic Career Plan.  All students will be able to demonstrate foundational skills in critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, communication, and citizenship.  All students are required to complete one virtual course before graduation. At this time that requirement can be met through Economics and Personal Finance.  All students must complete First Aid, CPR, AED Training, which is completed in the 9th grade Health/PE class  All students must either take Advanced Placement or Honors courses, OR pass an industry credential

All grades are part of a student’s GPA (Grade Point Average) and class rank Each semester has four 4.5 week marking periods (report cards go out every 4.5 weeks vs Middle School every 9 weeks)

Each semester has 4 quarters and an exam: 1st quarter = 20% 2nd quarter = 20% 3rd quarter = 20% 4th quarter = 20% Exam grade= 20% Average of all 5 grades = Final Grade

 Students must select a face-to-face class. The high school will be notified which students will be placed into the virtual classes.  Classes are NOT self-paced and all work is completed on the same timeline as the face-to-face classes.  Students are responsible for having reliable computer usage and internet access.

 Three pathways: Mechatronics Certificate, Social Sciences Transfer Degree, and General Studies Certificate (see the scheduling booklet for details)  Can earn either diploma, but it may require you to attend summer school to meet all of the requirements.  For the Social Sciences Transfer Degree, it is recommended that you already be in Geometry and a foreign language to earn the advanced studies diploma.  The pathways are NOT mandatory, but they are a great option for students who may be interested in these areas.  They are NOT the only way to earn college credits while in high

  • school. There are many Dual Enrollment and AP options for

college bound students, with new classes being added all the time.

 All students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to play sports in the Virginia High School League.  Freshmen who plan to play sports must enter high school with a 2.0 to play fall sports.  Many fall sports and marching band start during the summer.  All students must have passed THREE classes the previous semester and must be currently enrolled in not fewer than THREE classes.
