 All students must complete an Academic Career Plan (ACP).  All students will be able to demonstrate foundational skills in the 5 C’s: Critical thinking, Creative thinking, Collaboration,

Communication, and Citizenship.

 All students must complete one virtual course before graduation. This can be met through Economics and Personal Finance.  All students must complete First Aid, CPR, AED Training, which is completed in the 9th grade Health/PE class  All students must either:

1. Take Advanced Placement or Honors courses 2.

  • OR- pass an industry credential

Verified Credits Standards of Learning Tests

All students MUST take SOLs in:

MATH BIOLOGY ENGLISH

to meet federal guidelines – even if they have already earned the verified credit in that subject area. (ESSA, Public Law 114-95) Once all verified credits have been earned and federal requirements met, students will not take any more SOL tests.

HB 1184 – College and Career Pathways

attainment with a community college in the Commonwealth of Virginia

  • Concurrent with a high school diploma
  • Available using Dual Enrollment (DE) courses

and Advanced Placement (AP) courses with qualifying exam scores of three or higher.

Pathway Options

General Studies Certificate Social Science Transfer Degree Mechatronics Certificate Students who work toward a pathway will need to take a series of classes both at Hickory High School and Tidewater Community College. Please refer to the scheduling booklet to see the requirements for each pathway.

 In order to be able to meet the requirements for the social science transfer degree, students should already have credits from the middle school.  When students take AP courses for pathways, they must make qualifying scores, a minimum of a 3, on the AP exams to earn the college credits.  The credits earned are through TCC, and they may or may not transfer to another college.  To meet the requirements for the pathways, students may have to limit which AP classes they want to take that are not required for the pathway.  To meet the requirements for the pathways, students may not be able to play sports or participate in various activities during their junior and/or senior years.

ALL grades are part of a student’s Grade Point Average (GPA) and class rank Each semester has four 4.5 week marking periods High School: Report cards are issued every 4.5 weeks Middle School: Report cards are issued every 9 weeks Each marking period and the final exam are 20% of the student’s final grade Athletic and VHSL participation requires a 2.0 GPA (C average or better is needed to play sports) Note: High School Credit-Bearing Classes Taken in Middle School

(Foreign Language, Algebra 1 & Geometry) Students electing to have a grade expunged/removed from your transcript in Middle School MUST complete the Audit Status Form. Contact your current middle school counselor for details.
