Goals

Ongoing HKNA Project, Special Engagement of Artist Enclave

  • Extend HK franchise as the “Neighborhood of the Arts” through

conspicuous and engaging public art and markers

  • Create a magnet of delight to draw people into HK, build reputation
  • Improve public safety by enticing more people to use public spaces
  • Exploit marketing opportunities to support neighborhood and events
  • Engage community through volunteer projects
  • Collaborate with the Grand Central District when feasible

  • 1. Any HKNA resident (including artists!) can submit proposal for public art
  • r marker

Initial elements required include:

  • Brief description of project
  • General schematics, size, materials
  • Potential location
  • Estimate of cost, possible funding sources

Process

  • 2. Committee will review:

Feasibility HKNA priorities Criteria based on city and county public art guidelines

  • 3. If committee votes to proceed, assigns project manager and provides

packet of requirements for:

  • City considerations, restrictions, contracts, hold harmless agreements
  • Contracts with City, HKNA, Artist, others as needed
  • Maintenance, conservation, insurance
  • Decommissioning process
  • Construction and contract agreements

Process

4.Funding plan for each project will be included and adopted.

  • Committee, project manager and artist will work to secure funding

for acquisition, construction, conservation, insurance, maintenance endowment

  • At its discretion, committee will use resources available to advance

the plan, including grants, fundraising, donations, and any marketing opportunities

5 . If committee votes to proceed, recommend project to HKNA Board

  • Seminole Park – signature piece(s) of art
  • Street corner markers – add finials to top of HKNA logo street signs
  • Various prominent places – monuments: bases professionally designed,

volunteer involvement in building, topped with 2- and 3-dimensional art

  • Dog park – signature piece
  • Seminole Park picnic pavilion – paint structure, add sculpture
  • Seminole Park benches and tables – decorative painting
  • 28th Street fences – temporary fence murals (e.g., BungalowFest)
