  3. DP vs CP What Program should I pick? DP is a two year college prep program. ◦ Focus is academics ◦ You have to take 6-7 IB courses each year. ◦ More rigid for scheduling. CP is a two year certificate program that combines academics with your career pathway. ◦ You are required to take 3 IB courses and your career- related course. ◦ More flexibility in scheduling.

  4. Requirements:  study six subjects from the six subject groups of the IB circle  write a maximum 4000 word extended essay  take the Theory of Knowledge course (TOK)  actively volunteer in creativity, activity, service (CAS).

  7. Diploma Courses  Each class has an Internal Assessment (IA). This is graded by the IB teacher at Heights and the grades are sent in to the IBO.  IAs can consist of: ◦ Presentations ◦ Research ◦ Lab work ◦ Investigations  Each subject has external assessments that are graded by IB examiners.

DP Core requirements  CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service • 18 months beginning Junior year • All the things you already do in your community: service, band, theater, sports, art car, clubs, etc.  The Extended Essay (EE) is a 4,000 word research paper on a topic of your choice.  You begin working on your Extended Essay in your Junior year, with help in the Theory of Knowledge class.

  10. DP Core requirements (Cont.)  Theory of Knowledge (TOK) stimulates critical reflection on knowledge and experience • Students attempt to answer the question “How does knowledge work, and how does it help in real life?”

How does a student earn the diploma?  Complete Extended Essay, TOK, and CAS  Complete all internally assessed work required by IB  Take all six IB courses and all six exams  Achieve a cumulative score of 24 (IB exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 7). Minimum score is 24; maximum score is 45

  12. Advocacy teachers check computers for college application process, unless student’s parent informs us applications are complete.

Over the course of the two- year programme students will:  Study 2 Diploma Courses  Take the Personal and Professional Skills Course  Participate in Service Learning  Complete Language Development  Reflective Project (ethics based)  Continue taking courses in their Career Related Pathway (Finance, Health Science, IT, & Transportation)

CP Core requirements  Personal and professional skills is a class to develop attitudes, skills and strategies to be applied to personal and professional situations.  Service learning: Identify and meet a need in your community.  Complete the reflective project which requires you to identify, analyze, critically discuss and evaluate an ethical issue stemming from your career-related studies.  Language development - 50 hours of study of another language to support your future career.

  16. How does a student earn the CP Certificate?  Complete the core requirements: PPS, Reflective Project, Service Learning and Language Development  Take at least 2 IB courses and exams and score a 3 or higher  Complete their Career Related Study during their junior and senior year and earn an industry certification.
