DP vs CP What Program should I pick?

DP is a two year college prep program.

  • Focus is academics
  • You have to take 6-7 IB courses each year.
  • More rigid for scheduling.

CP is a two year certificate program that combines academics with your career pathway.

  • You are required to take 3 IB courses and your career-

related course.

  • More flexibility in scheduling.

Diploma Courses

Each class has an Internal Assessment (IA). This is graded by the IB teacher at Heights and the grades are sent in to the IBO. IAs can consist of:

  • Presentations
  • Research
  • Lab work
  • Investigations

Each subject has external assessments that are graded by IB examiners.

DP Core requirements

  • CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service
  • 18 months beginning Junior year
  • All the things you already do in your community:

service, band, theater, sports, art car, clubs, etc. The Extended Essay (EE) is a 4,000 word research paper on a topic of your choice.

  • You begin working on your Extended Essay in your

Junior year, with help in the Theory of Knowledge class.

How does a student earn the diploma?

  • Language development - 50 hours of study of another

language to support your future career.
