  9. What does an 80-minute class look like? ● Opportunities to switch between multiple activities in a single period, allowing them to apply the same information to various contexts. ● Less of a time constraint for students to ask questions in class. ● Spending more time in-depth on material in lieu of reviewing. ● Chunking time in 15-20 minute segments which might include presenting information, guided practice, question and answer, collaborative activities, and other creative methods to ensure understanding and mastery of the subject matter. ● This is not doubling lessons… it is breaking up material in multiple ways in the duration of a lesson.

  10. How would this improve our student experience? ● Greater depth during class ● More opportunity to collaborate ● More time for seeking help ● More time for enrichment ● More time for clubs ● Slower-paced day ● Reduced transitions ● Better use of time ● Greater efficiencies ● Teaching students to take ownership for learning and self-advocate ● Learn how to prepare for class

  11. How will Wellness and Band/Choir work? ● Classes will be built as a period in a student’s schedule ● Band will exist - as is - with greater opportunity ● Wellness - ○ Improved incorporation of health topics ○ Driver’s education ○ First aid and safety ○ Physical education

  12. Getting our teachers ready ● Time to collaborate and plan ● Partnership with other schools to learn and grow ● Using various resources as learning tools ● Pacing guides ● Student feedback on lesson structure

  13. Student Input and Design ● Student survey conducted ● Meeting with student groups ● Student Committee process ○ Google Form to ALL students ○ 34 responses ○ Committee design

  14. What if we cancel or delay? ● Delay: ○ Adjusted schedule so all classes meets ○ 51 minutes each ○ Lunch and Learn remains intact ● Cancel: ○ A day is never missed ○ Example: if we cancel on a Monday that was a G Day; then G Day is pushed to Tuesday (or the next day we are in session) ● Benefits: ○ Equitable time - even if delay or cancel ○ You never ‘miss’ a day ○ Resource availability

  15. What will homework look like? ● Double the class time does not equal double the homework. ● As always, enough to reinforce concepts and verify understanding. ● Students will have the opportunity to seek help during Lunch and Learn. ● More opportunities for revision, extension and remediation. ● Potential for homework decreasing.

  16. Mercer County Career Center Student

  17. What will the MCCC student experience be like? ● Students divided into two groups - G and C ● Group G attends MCCC every other day opposite Group C ● MCCC day will be structured as such: ○ Attend entire day to complete their competency-based program ○ Greater opportunity for cooperative experience in the workplace ○ Better program continuity ● Grove City High School day structured as such: ○ Schedule and attend 4 classes ○ Access Lunch and Learn ○ Supported by our resources
