General Info About Camp Arnes

▪ Camp Arnes is owned and operated by the Lake

Winnipeg Mission Camp Society, Inc. The society began

  • perating summer camps for youth in 1949 and has

since then built up the site and facilities and expanded its program to a year-round operation. The camp has grown, for the most part, through donations and volunteer labour. The camp is a not-for-profit operation and is registered as such with the Federal Government.

▪ Site: The site consists of 320 acres of beautifully wooded

forest, meadows, bogs, grasslands and a large playground area. Foot paths, self-guided nature trails, riding trails and ski trails make for easy access into the forest area. The changing shoreline allows for hikes to the Arnes pier and marina and other points of interest.

Camp Arnes Allergy/Dietary Restrictions Policy

All guests with allergies or dietary restrictions should bring their medications, Epipens, etc. as well as snacks that they know they can have (as long as they are nut- free). Those with allergies will be introduced to the host and to the Kitchen Manager. At that time they can discuss the allergies in more detail. Please make sure to mention if a severe allergy is airborne or just consumption based; this should be indicated on the allergy form prior to arrival. Camp Arnes is a nut safe camp. Since we don’t always know exactly what groups are bringing to Camp for additional snacks, we cannot guarantee we are nut free; however we do not use nuts or nut oils in our kitchen. Some of our products come from suppliers indicating their products “may contain nuts”. If that is a concern, we encourage individuals to supply food items for times they may not want to eat what is provided. We do not cook any seafood/shell fish products. As a nut safe Camp, we ask that only pre-packaged and nut free snack items be brought to Camp to protect the safety of all current and future guest groups. Camp Arnes can guarantee gluten free and lactose free diets as well as diabetic diets. We will try to do our best to accommodate any other allergies, however, this cannot be

  • guaranteed. Camp Arnes serves meals buffet style (Camp Arne staff serves guests),

where those with allergies may be able to simply avoid certain foods in the line (if the allergy is mild and/or is easy to identify). If an allergy is severe and a guest wants to bring their own meals, store it in our kitchen and use our microwave at meal times, they are more than welcome to do so provided that the meals are prepared in advance and simply need to be warmed up. For the vegetarians in the group, we do guarantee an alternative protein (i.e. lentils, chickpeas) at each meal (variety may be limited). All dietary needs and allergies must be indicated on the Personal Medical Information Form which will be a part of the Parent Info Pack going home in April.

Swimming Pool Policies and Information Endurance Test

▪ All students will be required to demonstrate a continuous

50-metre swim to our NLS certified lifeguards before being allowed into the deep end of the pool.

▪ All students who pass the endurance test will receive a

wristband. Buddy System

▪ Camp Arnes lifeguards will be enforcing the “buddy

system” during pool times.

▪ When a whistle or similar communication device sounds,

each pair will find one another and stay in one place until instructed otherwise.

▪ Each student should keep an eye on his or her “buddy”

throughout the activity.

▪ This system will be tested by Camp Arnes lifeguards every

fifteen minutes.
