- Each year, Regional Council is required to pass a by-law applying optional tools in calculating the amount of
property taxes for commercial, industrial and multi-residential (capped) property classes. City of Brampton (Comments from Finance):
- Brampton participates with Mississauga, Caledon, and the Region as part of the Joint Regional and Area Tax Policy
Team, to review the legislative requirements regarding tax policy and options available to the municipalities. It was unanimously agreed to adopt all the available capping options in 2018. Utilizing these options increases the number of properties paying taxes at their full current value assessment (CVA).
- For Brampton, preliminary analysis indicates that by adopting all of the optional tools, the number of properties in
the capped classes paying taxes at full CVA will increase from 99.3% in 2017 to approximately 99.6% in 2018. Staff Recommendation: Approve Recommendations
