Mandate of Hill Areas Department
(KAAC) and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) are being administered by the Hill Areas Department as the Nodal Department of the State Govt. for all round development activities of the people of Hill Areas.

Constitution of Autonomous Councils

Devolution of Fund
the Transformation and Development Department earmarks 7.5% of state divisible plan fund (since renamed as SOPD) as the share of Hill Areas.
allocates the divisible fund among the development sectors of the two Hill Autonomous Councils in 70:30 ratio for Karbi Anglong and N.C. Hills Autonomous Council respectively.

Areas for Development
Areas Development Programme (HADP), Watershed Development Project for Shifting Cultivation Areas (WDPSCA) and Integrated Jhumia Development Project (IJDP) have brought immense growth to the tribal community.
