5 Steps for Handwashing

  • Wet your hands with clean, running water

(warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.

  • Lather your hands by rubbing them together

with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.

  • Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds.

Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.

  • Rinse your hands well under clean, running

water.

  • Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry

them.

Disinfecting

  • Follow label instructions
  • You must ‘clean’ visible dirt/soil before you can disinfect
  • Keeping surface wet for a period of time (see product

have good ventilation during use of the product.

  • Wash hands after cleaning/sanitizing/disinfecting

Disinfecting

  • IF you choose Bleach & Water for specific surfaces
  • Make it everyday (good for 24 hours)
  • Read label instructions very carefully
  • Clean before disinfecting
  • Keep wet for two minutes

To make a bleach solution, mix:

  • 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water

OR

  • 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water

Alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol may also be used.
