IEP Meetings
- If adjustments need to be made, the expectation is for these adjustments
to be made within the first 30 days of school through an IEP meeting.
- All IEP meetings will be held virtually. (Google meet, Zoom or telephone)
- Parents will receive (via email or mail) an agenda and draft IEP (or other
related documents) at least 1 week before the meeting occurs unless an emergency meeting is needed.
- If an emergency meeting is needed the parent will be contacted via
telephone or email.
- As always, if you feel like changes need to be made to your child’s IEP,
you can request an IEP meeting at any time by contacting your child’s special education provider.
Virtual Services
- Over 800 out of 2400 students with special needs signed up for the virtual
academy.
- Students should know who their teacher is at the time of registration.
- The 1st priority for the teachers will be to assess current goals to
determine if adjustments need to be made.
- Parents should expect this assessment to occur within the first two weeks
- f virtual learning.
VIRTUAL SERVICES
- All students with an IEP have been assigned a special education provider.
- In most cases the provider will be from their home school.
- Parents should expect to have communication from their child’s provider
the week of August 31st.
- They will work with general education teachers to schedule sessions for
each student.
- Some instruction may be done in small groups.
- For the most part, instruction occuring in small groups will be on the day
- pposite from their academic schedule. (“B” day)

- Some students may receive some work packets from their service
providers for supplemental instruction or assessment purposes.
- Work packets do not take the place of virtual instruction.
- All students are expected to be in place for scheduled instruction.
- All students, regardless of whether or not they have an IEP, are expected
to follow the same attendance guidelines
- If your child will be out for medical purposes, then the same rules apply.
Extended Medical absences could fall under medical homebound procedures.
- Services may be provided in a virtual group setting with scheduled
individual sessions.
A/B COHORT SERVICES
- Students attending school in the A/B cohort model will receive services as
written on their IEP; however, services may be stretched over a 2-week period.
- The goal is for students is to receive all services while present during the
school day.
- Special Education teachers and therapists will have the flexibility to serve
students virtually on the days students are not in attendance.
- Serving students on non-attendance days should not be the norm but an
- ption in the event time needs to be made up.
A/B COHORT SERVICES
- In some cases, students attending small self contained classes will have
the option to attend 5 days a week.
- In most cases, this is the option for students with more significant
disabilities.
- If this is an option for your student, you should have heard from your
child’s school today.
- If a student had mainstreaming or other inclusive services on their IEP,
the same programs that were written on the IEP will be followed unless the team meets to change the decision.
Medical Procedures During A/B COHORT SERVICES
- Students riding medical transport to school will have temperatures checked before
exiting the transport vehicle. Medical transport will be asked to return a student home if they have an elevated temperature.
- Schools have taken steps to ensure students with severe medical issues are isolated and
may have alternate entrance to the building to ensure their safety (this will vary school to school).
- In the case of masks, if there are documented sensory issues or physical limitations that
make masks impractical, students will not be disciplined for not wearing a mask.
- Parents are encouraged that if their child can wear a mask that you practice mask
wearing now with your children.
- If you have questions about specific steps taken in regards to health and safety, please
call your child’s school for more information.
EVALUATIONS
- If you signed permission for your child to be evaluated, the school
psychologist or speech language therapist/pathologist assigned to your school will contact you the first week of school to notify you of the scheduled evaluation.
- If your student is attending the virtual option and you signed permission
for your child to be evaluated, the school psychologist or speech language therapist/pathologist may ask you to bring your student to his or her home school or another district location to complete the evaluation.
