Additional Expansion Planning considerations were determined with The Monforton School Expansion 2 Planning Commituee Members in the Fall of 2012. Enrollment numbers continue to increase and the school is again at full

  • capacity. This Planning needs to anticipate the expansion of school building to

accommodate this enrollment growth.

The following objectives were identified for the Expansion 2 Planning project:

  • Evaluate and address deficiencies in the support spaces (such as the gym, library and

food service areas) for the increased number of students.

  • Address increased vehicular access parking needs as the enrollment increases and

emergency vehicle access around the school as the school building expands east.

  • Evaluate the current RTI program needs and the number and size of the flexible /

small group instructional spaces.

  • Evaluate and address the option of removing and replacing the south school building.

Fire Protection

  • Current fjre service and domestic water are connected to the local water service.

The water main runs downs Monforton Road from the north to the new fjre hydrant to the southeast.

  • Both Fire Sprinklers and Fire Alarm systems are up to date in the school builidng.

Lighting

  • Power service and system is adequate for normal school activities. The existing ser-

vice size is adequate for the next addition.

  • Light levels at the east exterior of the school have been increased and reconnected

at the north parking lot area.

Emergency Services

  • Emergency vehicles currently come from both the north and south. With Monforton

School Road closed, there is an emergency vehicle access drive in front of the school.

Parking

  • Pedestrian traffjc, parking, bus & parent drop-off is being improved both at the south

and north end of the school building.

  • Parking spaces have been increased both at the north and south access points to

the school and has reduced the number of vehicles parking on the road.

  • The school property is bi-sected by Monforton Road with no

safe crosswalks.

Landuse

  • The property has two levels and is bisected by portions of Monforton Road and the

Hubert Ditch. The lower level area adjacent to the school building is becoming too constrained due to the expansion of the building. Transition from the lower level of the site to the upper level should be improved.

Civil Items:

  • The location of the next expansion (at the east) will require the redirection of the on

site water fmow at the east side of the building and relocation of the storm drains.

  • The existing asphalt that remained at the south drop off area should be replaced soon

as it is showing signs of deterioration.

Structural Items:

  • If we consider renovating or adding from or to the South portions of the building, will

need to consider issues associated with the roof trusses on the 1977 portion of the building.

Mechanical Items:

  • If we continue to use the South Building, we should add fjre sprinkler system to

the basement to meet code (or recommend not using the basement at all except for storage).

  • If we remove the South Building, we will need to relocate the well and irrigation

system equipment.

  • Will need to evaluate the wells and water connection if we add on to the North

Building towards the south.

  • Will need to upgrade the existing boiler pumps (from 3 hp to 5 hp) if we add on to

the North Building.

  • If the Fire Access Lane moves to the west side of the North Building, we should

relocated the fjre department access to the riser room (need to verify with the fjre department)

  • Improve Site Lighting along new trail – verify with the School.
