European Women in Mathematics EWM – Founded in 1986 (after participation of several European mathematicians to an AWM-organized roundtable at the ICM 1986 in Berkeley) – Registered as an association since 1993 (in Finland, with seat in Helsinki) – Non-profit – Represented in more than 30 countries – Membership open to all women; men (and organizations) can be supporting members – Several hundred members – http://www.europeanwomeninmaths.org

European Women in Mathematics Mission The purposes of EWM are: • To encourage women to take up and continue their studies in mathematics and to promote mathematics among women. • To support women with or desiring careers in research in mathematics or mathematics related fields. • To provide a meeting place for these women. • To foster international scientific communications among women within and across fields in mathematics. • To promote equal opportunity and equal treatment of women and men in the mathematical community. • To cooperate with groups and organizations with similar goals. (Article 2, Clause 1 of the Statutes)
