  1. Euclid Consortium Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting Barcelona, July 9-10 2012 OU-VIS Patrick Hudelot (IAP) MSSL (London) CASU (Cambridge) CEA (Saclay) University of Edinburgh Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 1 1

  2. OU-SIM for OU-VIS Euclid Consortium - OU-SIM VIS and OU-VIS overview - Who needs OU-SIM VIS products ? - OU-VIS - OU-SHE - What type of outputs should OU-SIM VIS produce ? - Which inputs to produce the OU-SIM VIS simulations ? 2 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 2

  3. OU-SIM : VIS simulators Euclid Consortium 3 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 3

  4. OU-SIM VIS interfaces Euclid Consortium OU-SIM VIS outputs : • Main customers : OU-VIS, OU-SHE (images) • Secondary customers : OU-MER,OU-NIS,OU-SIR (catalogs) OU-SIM VIS inputs : • Science Working groups (catalogs of galaxies, stars) • VIS Instrument (Instrument model parameters) 4 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 4

  5. Standardize the interfaces : The Data Model Euclid Consortium Smooth dataflow at interfaces requires formatting. DATA MODEL NEEDED ! The data model is a catalog of objects along with their type description (example : gain, double float / Simulated PSF, fits image) Two data models : • Data model of OUs objects : Catalog of all objects manipulated by the OU -> OU-SIM may be asked to produce these by-products to bypass some processing step ans test specific sections of the pipeline. -> to which granularity ? -> OU-VIS examples: single science exposure, flatfield exposure. -> Which of these objects requires to be simulated ? • Data model of OU-SIM VIS inputs relevant to the production of OU-SIM VIS outputs -> catalogs of astronomical objects (galaxies, stars) -> catalog of VIS instrument and telescope parameters 5 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 5

  6. OU-VIS pipeline overview Euclid Consortium 6 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 6

  7. OU-VIS : simulations to check the requirements Euclid Consortium • Do we meet the requirements ? • Is the PSF not degraded by the OU-VIS processing ? • The tightest requirements target mainly the PSF degradation through the VIS processing. • The photometric requirements of the VIS channel is not clear. 7 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 7

  8. OU-VIS : simulation and the calibration plan Euclid Consortium Delta-IPRR : Onboard calibration document (MSSL) • Can the OU-VIS algos meet the req when fed with the calibrations from the calibration plan ? • On-bard calibrations : • Bias • CTI,CR model,Cosmetic • Flat Field • Scattered light map • Dense star field (PSF, astrophotometry) • Deep field 8 Euclid CSWG - OUSIM Meeting, Barcelona July 9-10, 2012 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 8

  9. OU-VIS : Simulations for OU-SHE ? Euclid Consortium Simulations type What for ? Stars - Isolated stars in subimages - Preliminary tests of the PSF measurement tools - Single wavelength - AOCS, Flatfield, Linearity, CTI effets - Zemax simulation - S/N possible biases - Isolated stars in subimages - PSF measurement and color effects - Euclid filter - Validation of requirements on PSF measurements - Multiple wavelength Zemax sim. - Realistic stellar populations from galaxy models. Objects - Realistic stellar fields - Blending effects - Spatial variations of the PSF on focal plane Galaxies - Isolated galaxies in subimages - Shape measurement tools - Single Wavelength - Isolated galaxies in subimages - Shape and galaxy colors - Realistic Euclid filter Galaxies - Realistic sky simulations - Combine PSF and galaxy shape measurement stars - Investigate blending - Validate object classification methods Galaxies - Sky simulations - Final OU-SHE tests Stars - Lensing : lensing - simple shear map - Realistic shear from CosmoSim 9 Euclid OU-VIS KO Meeting, Paris March 26-27, 2012 9
