What is House Bill 5?
- Reduces the number of STAAR/EOC tests to five:
English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and US History
- New attendance requirements: If a student is not in attendance
90% of the time, student will receive “LOC” instead of a grade and will receive no credit until the LOC contract is completed.
- Requires students to graduate under the new graduation plans:
- All 8th grade students must choose an ENDORSEMENT. This is the
plan that students will choose to determine his/her course of study in high school.

- All 8th grade students will apply to El Paso Community College
- n November 6
- February 5 PAAM window begins, all 8th graders will take the
- PAAM. The PAAM are practice sessions that prepare students
for TSI.
- April 2 TSI window begins, all 8th graders will take the TSI.
The Texas Success Initiative is an exam that determines a student’s eligibility.
- TSI goal score is 351.
