What is House Bill 5?

  • Reduces the number of STAAR/EOC tests to five:

English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and US History

  • New attendance requirements: If a student is not in attendance

90% of the time, student will receive “LOC” instead of a grade and will receive no credit until the LOC contract is completed.

  • Requires students to graduate under the new graduation plans:
  • All 8th grade students must choose an ENDORSEMENT. This is the

plan that students will choose to determine his/her course of study in high school.

  • Endorsements are similar to a college major. They are as follows:

The Texas Success Initiative is an exam that determines a student’s eligibility.

  • TSI goal score is 351.
