In class, children use their sticky notes to make connections, ask questions, infer, predict or respond to literature. These are a great tool for you to use at home.

Homework is a huge piece of your child's success in third grade.

The homework folder is crucial to home-school

  • communication. This is where your child will bring

home important notices about classroom and school activities, as well as homework. Please make sure you are checking your child's folder and homework each night.

slide-21
SLIDE 21

July 6, 2019

Please make sure that you check your child's school bag each

  • night. While I understand that many parents want their

children to work towards independence in this area, my suggestion would be to allow your child to empty their school bag and folder and then check it when they are finished.

While this is unavoidable, it reinforces the idea that students should be studying continuously, not in a single night.

Teaching the Whole Child

As a teacher, my goal is to teach the whole child. While academics are an important part of your child's development, life lessons are just as important to the growth of your child. Learning bigger lessons, like how to work together, how to accept responsibility, how to ask for help, and how to handle challenges, and disappointments are all a part of your child's growth this year.

Own It Problem Solving Working Together Facing Challenges It's okay to make mistakes

slide-26
SLIDE 26

July 6, 2019

I realize that as a parent, our instinct is to want to fix things for our

  • children. But at this age, a big part of their growth depends on their

ability to face challenges and work through them. This is the time to let your child fail. This is the time to model for them that it's okay to make mistakes.

Failure Leads to Success

Let your child fail. Let them face consequences.

slide-27
SLIDE 27

July 6, 2019

Experiencing consequences is the way children grow. I know as parents, because of our amazing love for our children, we often have a harder time accepting consequences than our children. But, modeling for them how to handle and learn from those consequences is one of the greatest lessons you can give them. There may be a time when they miss recess, or lose out on an activity. Please reassure them that that's not the end of the world. There will be ups and downs throughout their third grade year, but they will come out on the other side ready to conquer the world.

Behavior Codes

We will be polite at all times. We will Work quietly and not disturb others. We will be friendly to fellow classmates. We will be truthful and honest. We will respect our teacher and other adults. We will be prepared for class every day. We will arrive at class on time. We will cooperate with others. We will always do our best. Below are our classroom rules. Your child was having trouble following the rule which is currently circled. Please discuss this matter with your
  • child. Sign below and return this form tomorrow with your child. Thank
you for your continued support!! ** I have talked with my child and they understand the classroom rules and how important it is that they be followed consistently. Parent/Guardian Signature: _______________________________ Have your child print their name: __________________________

Behavior Note

While I don't anticipate many issues with behavior. On the

  • ff chance that your child is

having difficulty making appropriate choices in the classroom, I definitely want to make sure that these concerns are communicated to you. On these occasions, a note will be sent home, letting you know of some of the behaviors

Invitation

I always love having parents come into our classroom to see all of the fun things that we're doing. I know as a parent, that many of you may have questions, or just be curious as to what our day looks like as the year goes on. Please, please feel free to come in and see what's going on in our classroom. Anytime you'd like to come in and visit, just give the office a call, and set up a time to come in.
