DPF retrofit potential installation – up to 650
Dpf installation – main concerns
- Installation
- There is no approval from chassis manufacturers to retrofit
the DPF -assembly , warranty and registration issues might accrue regarding responsibility for damages.
- There is no regulation for DPF retrofit.
- Matching the DPF to the engine (low oil burning rate, low-
ash oil).
- Safety
- Increased risk of fire due to high temperature within the
filter.
Dpf installation – main concerns cont.
- Maintenance
- installation cost, including maintenance set up cost.
- Ongoing maintenance – additional cost to maintain high
quality maintenance.
- Cost
- Ongoing cost – additional cost due to the lifetime of the
DPF
- Increased fuel consumption
- equipment for cleaning the filter.
Dpf installation – fleet manager experience
Insights on long term effects on the systems and the engine, on fuel consumption, on the routine maintenance and more:
- Of course it is making the whole system more complicated, there will be an
increase of fuel consumption due to the back pressure, but this will be minimal.
- If you consider to upgrade your system with particle filter systems, following issues
are important:
- The engine has to fulfill a low oil burning rate, since the burned oil will block the
particle filters quite fast. The used engine oil itself should be a low-ash oil
- The normal maintenance time is after 120.000km – but if the system does not
work properly e.g. engine is not reaching the burn out temperature – the maintenance time can be dramatically higher (worst even 20.000km)
- Maintenance has to be done with a cleaning machine - burn out and blow
- ut- with a ceramic filter – metallic filter can be blown out with high pressure.
Therefore I recommend metallic filters.
- In general the cleaning procedure, exchange of filters and overall lifetime has to be
considered into the additional costs.
